Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation (MMMF)

Who Are the MMMF?

The MMMF was formed in 2018 by a group of Manchester United fans who wanted to preserve the legacy of the 1958 disaster and ensure this legacy is protected, enhanced and handed on to future generations. They also wanted to “give something back” to the people of Munich who had looked after the victims of the crash. In 2020 The MMMF became a registered charity. Every trustee and member of the MMMF is an unpaid volunteer. All are lifelong, match going supporters of Manchester United.

The beneficiaries of the charitable donations to the MMMF are disadvantaged young people in locations closely related to the Munich air tragedy. We provide financial support to 2 Munich-based charities, Buntkicktgut and Pikassio Libero. In the North West of England, we support the Depaul charity for homeless children in Manchester. We also support 2 remarkable Children’s Hospices: Derian House in Chorley and Francis House in Didsbury. In Belgrade, we provide assistance to FC Studenski Grad, a children’s sports organisation. Thanks to the generosity of The United Family, substantial donations have been made to these charities every year since the Foundation launched.

The MMMF organises and leads the annual memorial service every February 6th in Manchesterplatz, Trudering, Munich. This has become an important event in fans’ annual calendar. Every February, we bring an adult and child to Munich who have never been before. At the service, they play a key role including reading out the Roll of Honour of those that lost their lives and laying a wreath on behalf of all Manchester United fans. We have an ongoing sponsorship agreement in place with Headley Media to fund the Munich Fans Representation program and guarantee its future for years to come.
