About the MMMF

What is the MMMF?

The MMMF (Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation) is a UK registered charity (Charity Number is 1192487). The beneficiaries of the charitable donations to the MMMF are disadvantaged, sick and terminally ill young people in locations closely related to the 1958 Munich air crash in which 23 people, including 8 Manchester United players, were killed.

Our Supported Charities

We provide financial support to 2 Munich-based charities, Buntkicktgut and Pikassio Libero.

In the North West of England, we support the Depaul charity for homeless children in Manchester. We also support 2 remarkable Children’s Hospices: Derian House in Chorley and Francis House in Didsbury.

In Belgrade, we provide assistance to FC Studenski Grad, a children’s sports organisation.

Thanks to the generosity of “The United Family” and others, substantial donations have been made to these charities every year since the Foundation launched.

MMMF: The Background

The MMMF was formed in 2018 by a group of Manchester United fans who wanted to preserve the legacy of the 1958 Munich air disaster and ensure this legacy is protected, enhanced and handed on to future generations. They also wanted to “give something back” to the people of Munich who had looked after the victims of the crash. In 2020 The MMMF became a registered charity. Every trustee and member of the MMMF is an unpaid volunteer.

Please note…The MMMF is a charity. It is not a supporter’s group and we have no affiliation with Manchester United F.C. or any supporter’s groups apart from the fact that all trustees and members are lifelong supporters and most are regular match-goers

Munich Remembrance Event

The MMMF organises and leads the annual memorial service on February 6th at Manchesterplatz in Munich. Part of the service is laying a wreath and reading out the names of the 23 people who died in the tragedy. Since 2018 the role of laying the wreath and reading out the names has been undertaken by the Fan’s Representative.

Each year the MMMF invite people to nominate themselves to attend the service as a Fans Rep. The two people (a teenager and accompanying adult) are selected at random via a draw at the MMMF Annual Gala Dinner. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Headley Media Ltd, the cost of return flights to Munich and two nights hotel accommodation in Munich will be paid for.
