It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Dr. Robert Lindenmueller.

He was the last remaining Doctor from the clinical team under the superb leadership and skill of Professor Georg Maurer at the Rechts der Isar hospital in Munich. He was part of the emergency critical response team that had only recently been formed by Professor Maurer.

Nurses Katharina Koppe, Elisabeth Weber and Sigrid Schmidt are the last surviving Angels of Munich.

We met Dr Lindenmueller at the hospital during the 60th anniversary Memorial visit in 2018, when we brought him and the nurses to the event, and below you can see him sat together with nurses on the memorial bench at Manchesterplatz, which we donated to the City of Munich in thanks for all the love, respect and kindness shown to our club and us fans.

In the photos below, on the bench you can see from L-R – Dr. Robert Lindenmueller, Katharina Koppe, Elisabeth Weber and Professor Peter Maurer (son of Georg Maurer).

Our Chairman, Pat Burns, had reached out to the hospital on a regular basis, however due to both Covid and staff changes it is only just now that he has learned of his sad passing.

Pat said “These elderly ladies and gentleman were heroes, giving everything they had to help Sir Matt and the Babes following the tragedy.
Their efforts contributed to saving the lives of many who were injured and we will be forever grateful to them all.
They were such warm, radiant and genuinely lovely people”.

“They, and their wonderful colleagues, should never be forgotten by us fans. As you can see in the photographs, they were overjoyed to be part of the 60th ceremony. These nurses were indeed Angels of Munich. May he Rest in Peace”.

Pat has arranged for Professor Georg Maurer’s son, Peter, along with Nurse Elisabeth Weber and the Chairman of the Board of the Rechts der Isar hospital, Professor Martin Siess, to attend the 65th memorial ceremony in Munich. Sadly, both Katharina Koppe and Sigrid Schmidt are too unwell to attend this year.
