On February 3rd 2023, a brass plaque was presented by the MMMF to the Metropol Hotel in Belgrade to commemorate the Busby Babes, who had stayed there during the fateful trip in February 1958. Following some delays, the plaque is now in place in the foyer of the hotel. The plaque reads:
IN MEMORY OF THE MANCHESTER UNITED BUSBY BABES
Last played on 5th February 1958 vs RED STAR BELGRADE
The tour party stayed here at the METROPOL HOTEL until 6th February 1958
Died tragically as a result of the Munich Air Disaster in Trudering Riem Munich on 6th February 1958
