The MMMF held it’s second fundraising dinner on Friday 20th September at Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford, Manchester.

Our MC for the evening, The Voice of Old Trafford, Alan Keegan facilitated a truly memorable night for everyone attending.

Pat Burns, one of the MMMF Directors, opened the evening with welcome, thanks and introductions and gave a powerful overview of what the MMMF is all about.

170 guests enjoyed a fantastic evening of food, wine, laughter, some tears, speeches, videos, auctions and dancing in what can only be described as truly scintillating company in splendid surroundings.

MUFC were superbly represented by club ambassadors Lou Macari and Arthur Albiston, plus our great supporter and friend, the legendary Paddy Crerand, was also present.

Our thanks and appreciation go to the following Busby Babes families, who were strongly represented:

  • Duncan Edwards: Cousin Dusky
  • Harry Gregg: Grand-daugher Aislinn
  • Tommy Taylor: Nephew Mick
  • Dennis Violett: Daughter Debbie and wife Barbara

We had a fantastic speech from Duncan’s cousin, Dusky, together with Rose Cook Monk, both from the Duncan Edwards Foundation which is based in Dudley.

We were also thrilled to hear from Paul Murphy, grandson of the legendary Jimmy Murphy, who spoke so vividly and full of incredible emotion on behalf of the Murphy family. Also in attendance representing the Murphy family were Jimmy’s son Nick and Grandsons Michael and Nick jnr.

Tom Clare travelled from Houston, Texas to be with us and gave a passionate speech about the memory and legacy of The Babes.

A personal video message from the chairman of Bayern Munich F.C. Karl Heinz Rummenigge went down a treat, as did footage of the 60th anniversary in Munich, together with original archived clips, obtained from Bavarian TV.

The draw for the two people, adult and child, to represent all United fans and take part in next year’s ceremony in Munich was done by Alan Keegan and Paddy Crerand and the succesful applicant is Kerry Rowan along with her son Zachary. Our congratulations, we look forward to seeing you in Munich next February.

Over the course of the evening, through both our open room and closed bid table auctions, we raised a magnificent £9055.50 which is beyond amazing.

We would like to thank everyone for coming out to support us, for donating some truly magnificent auction prizes, and helping us continue to support children’s charities in Manchester, Munich and Belgrade in the memory of our beloved Busby Babes.
