Munich 2019: Fan’s Rep Report
For the recent 61st memorial anniversary, the MMMF brought our first two chosen fans representatives to the ceremony in Trudering, Munich.
Here is a report, written by Derek and George Gardner from New Moston, Manchester, giving their own account of their experience. Below the report is a short video interview given on the day.
I am writing this shortly after returning home from Munich, after spending three wonderful days in the city. On Wednesday 6th February, we travelled to the site where on that fateful day in 1958, the plane carrying the Manchester United Football Club team, officials and others crashed, with 23 souls being lost.
George and I were privileged to read out all the names of those who died and to lay a wreath at the memorial site. It was a very moving and sad occasion, which brought a tear to my eye. I have been fortunate to see the Busby Babes play across several seasons, and I still think they were the finest team to wear the shirts of Manchester United.
I will remember these three days for the rest of my life. I would like to thank everyone involved in making this trip possible. I will now hand over to my Grandson George to add a few words.
Following on from what my Grandpa said, I would like to thank everyone involved in making the trip possible. It is vital that the Busby Babes memory lives on, and people still remember them far into the future.
